You will also learn how to capture the quality of light available to you. You will achieve a level of transparency with your images anddevelop an understanding of head architecture that will give you the confidence to take on even the most challenging portraits. Award winning watercolorist, Fealing combines semi-abstract strokes and impressionistic concepts to elicit life and movement in her portrait and figure paintings. There will be daily lecture, exercise and demo. Fealing will assist and critique student's works whatever way she could, and allow the students to work on their own pace. During this workshop, learn how value and temperature change, as well as how to use transparent glazing to allow the glow ofthe paper to shine through. By balancing colors and weaving lights and darks, you will achieve painterly and successful paintings. Somewhere around 5,000 years ago, indigenous people of the North American Southwest began to cultivate maize, an early version of what we know as corn today. Early maize was not much like the corn we know, but its cultivation enabled people who were essentially hunter-gatherers to remain in one area, allowing for the beginnings of what would later become the cultures of Ancestral Puebloans, Mogollon and Hohokam. Many changes in people, crops and practices have occurred in the last 5,000 years, but agriculture remains integral to culture and economy of the North American Southwest. Artists of the New Mexico Watercolor Society will draw on changes in Prehistoric, Historic and Contemporary agricultural practices and imagery to illustrate a beautiful timeline, supporting the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Museum’s mission to promote the arts while educating Museum visitors about aesthetics and diversity in the artwork of historic and contemporary New Mexico.
