  Eligibility Requirements:

  • The artist must have exhibited in five (5) of the following New Mexico Watercolor Society juried exhibitions within 5 years.  
    

  1. NMWS Spring Exhibition
     
  2. Western Federation Societies (WFWS) exhibition
     
  3. MasterWorks of New Mexico exhibition (Miniature exhibit does not apply)
     
  4. NMWS Southern Chapter Annual Exhibition

  • Credit for acceptances are limited to two per year and one painting per exhibition
    
  • Member of NMWS at the time of application
    
  • Payment of a one-time Signature Member Application fee of $20.00. 
    

  
  

  Upon acceptance of your application, the Signature Membership Chair will authorize your inclusion in the Signature Membership Group as appropriate.  A certificate of acceptance will then be sent to you.   The NMWS designation will also be included in subsequent NMWS Directories.

  Presentation by

  J.K. (Jennifer) Drummond

  Presenting on "Florals" 

                                                         A native New Mexican, J. K. Drummond has been influenced by many excellent local artists, the foremost being her father and teacher, David Drummond. [link will open in new window]

  J.’s art training started early. Dr. Drummond attached a roll of butcher paper to a board, creating a portable drawing table with an infinite supply of paper. According to J., by the time you have filled several rolls of paper, you draw pretty well.

  Her father grew up in Philadelphia, the heartland of American illustration. The artists J. was first introduced to were the great American illustrators, such as N. C. Wyeth, Maxfield Parish and Norman Rockwell.

  Art education continued throughout J.’s formative years. She attended elementary school at the School for Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati, where she received a classic art education.

  Both her formal schooling and her love of illustration focused on the human figure. J. began sneaking into college life drawing classes at the age of twelve, and filching her mother’s medical books for the anatomical drawings.

  The April 12th paint out will be at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, from 10 am to 12 noon. The grounds are free and open to the public, and the Visitor's center has restrooms. The Gallery has a fee and does not allow any painting or sketching. NHCC is located at the intersection of Avenida Dolores Huerta (Avenida Cesar Chavez) and 4th Street.

  (Registration is not necessary. Please arrive with your gear, water, a hat, sunscreen, and perhaps a small portable chair.)

  Join us for an informative demonstration by Las Cruces mixed media artist Laurie Churchill. You will learn the basics of using a gel plate to make colorful, textured prints that can be incorporated into collages. See how water-based paints and a variety of substrates, together with stencils and texturing, result in gel plate printed papers that may be incorporated into beautiful, complex collages.

  In the Spring we host" a meet and greet" with our new members for the year and also the Board and volunteers.  It's a great chance to get to know our new members and have them get to know us!  We all bring a painting to share and talk about briefly, and enjoy small refreshments and comradery.  We will be sending an email invitation to new members.  
  
  The event is at the Clubhouse of the Mesilla Park Heritage Condominiums, 905 Conway Ave. in Las Cruces.  Here are directions and phone numbers to call if you need further help in finding it.  

  From I-10 Heading north

  Get off at University and turn left (west)

  Head west on University until you come to Main Street.

  Turn left on Main until you come to Conway Ave.

  Turn right on Conway and follow to 905 Conway Ave., and turn into the Mesilla Park Heritage Condominiums. (MPHA)

  Turn right at the first street and the Clubhouse #67 will be on your left.

  You will see parking spaces in front of the clubhouse or in front of the park by the Clubhouse.
