Watercolor Atmosphere
Watercolor lets me freely express myself to present mood and atmosphere. After being inspired by the subject, I try to envision the painting in its finished form but this medium challenges me with the unexpected. I will alter my work on the fly, trying to keep focus of intensity against washed out color for contrast. I love the unexpected abstract qualities I find in watercolor.
My wife Sue and I moved from northern Illinois, which is much greener and easy for gardeners. Other than painting, my hobby has been landscape/garden design so I have multiple challenges and a lot to learn. I have a commercial art degree from the American Academy of Art in Chicago, but taking watercolor classes with Ed Shipley and Dan Danielson are the extent of my formal training in painting. I'm excited to share recent steps in my watercolor journey. --Mark
Mark Cirzan and his wife Sue Davis moved from Illinois to Las Cruces in June 2021. They grew tired of long cold winters and gloomy skies, and both agree that relocating to New Mexico was a great choice! The landscape constantly amazes and inspires them on their weekly hikes, and also provides great source material for their paintings.
